This is a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Fanfiction from the 2012 series and is based on that plotline. It's not mostly centered around Karai but is not necessarily a Leorai shipping story.

Crouched in the shadows, a form shifted, moving weight from one leg to the other. This time at night the normally overcrowded streets were barren.  There was no sign of the turtles. The figure, a young girl clothed in black with silver armor strapped in place, stepped out of the darkness. Karai. A metal mask obscured half of her face but her golden eyes were still visible. They narrowed as she scanned over buildings. Without any noise she leapt from rooftop to rooftop making her way home. The wind whipped around her. The long strands of her dark brown hair were blown every which way. Occasionally they slapped her in the face, making her huff with annoyance.
“Blasted hair.” She shoved it out of her face, taking stops along the way to fix it.
It was on one of these stops that she saw her. Pausing longer than normal on a roof, the wind brought to her the scent of cherry blossoms. She inhaled deeply and looked towards the smell. This was the residential part of the city. Most of the buildings were upscale apartment built to house the fancy business men as they traveled with their families to visit China town - well that’s what people liked to say anyway. Everyone knows there’s no place better than a fancy downtown apartment for a secret love affair. On the roof of one these Karai spotted someone. Their back was turned but they were to small and skinny to be a male. Another breeze whipped her hair back into her face and she was momentarily blinded. Growling she once again fixed it. When she got it situated she looked back at the figure. They had moved closer to the buildings edge. A wild temptation to see what they were doing filled her head. Without a second thought she moved silently towards them.
The scent of cherry blossoms was gone. Maybe all she had smelled was her own perfume, made strong by the rushing wind. Yet for a moment she could have sworn she felt her mother near. Shaking the feeling away she turned her attention back to the stranger. They were balanced on the roofs edge, arms spread wide. The moon was full, high in the sky. From its illumination she could make out the details of what she was seeing. A girl stood bare foot and clad only in a pink night gown. She was considerably smaller than Karai in many ways, especially by height. Her hair shone a pale white under the moons glow and the wind whipped it around in a crazy dance. For a moment she thought she was going to jump. They were ten stories up; it was a good place as any for suicide. But no. The girl stepped back from the ledge once a cloud obscured the moon. Karai shrank back in the shadows watching as she hurried through the door that led back inside. It was an odd feeling. Something had been happening, something strange and special, and she had simply stumbled upon it. She felt she had shared something extraordinary with the girl without even sharing anything. Goosebumps filled her arms and she hurried on her way, determined to put the strange incident out of her mind.

It was six in the morning and she found herself back in her bedroom staring at the window. Karai had seen no sign of the turtles or any of those freaky aliens anywhere. It was a strange feeling to come back home, feeling only slightly winded from the walk back. The springs creaked under her weight as she folded her legs underneath her. Her whole body was tense, restless and ill at ease. Dawn was breaking over the city streets; its light hitting the windows of nearby buildings and shattering into little rainbows. One beam came straight through her window and sat like a golden stripe on her black comforter. Absentmindedly she ran her finger along its edge. It was hotter than the rest of the cool fabric. She sighed and drew her hand back popping her knuckles as she stood. With a soft rustle she pulled the curtains closed, plunging the room into darkness. She supposed she would have to force herself to sleep if her body wasn’t willing to do so itself.
As she crawled back into bed her eyes adjusted quickly to the dark. The familiar shape of her dresser loomed in one corner, the door hanging open slightly. Inside of it hung her suit of armor, the metal plates well cleaned and polished. Even though she had been in New York for a few months now she still had boxes of stuff strewn about her room. Many of their contents halfway pulled out or tossed aside right next to them. She hadn’t expected to stay here so long. In fact most of her stuff was still in Tokyo, left in the family mansion.
Groaning softly she leaned back against the soft fluffy pillows. It did feel good to lie down. She stretched her long legs in front of her. They were pale in the faint light coming in from the top of her curtains. Her pajamas consisted only of black shorts and a simple cotton shirt. She yawned and stretched her arms above her head arching her back like a cat. Once she was comfortable she snuggled down under the warm blankets, glad to be protected from the frigid air of the AC.  Yet she tossed and turned, her body refusing to relax. A long body pillow lay next to her and she grabbed it pressing it close to her chest. Burying her face into its plush surface she tried her hardest to force sleep upon herself. She even tried to count sheep, hoping the repetitive beats of the numbers would lull her to sleep. Nothing was working. The memory of the cherry blossoms and the girl was fresh on her mind. It wasn’t like her to be up like this. The abyss of sleep refused to open up to her.

Leo sat on the edge of a roof overlooking the city’s skyline. The sun was starting to rise and he really should have been heading back to the lair. Yet he stayed sitting watching as the city began to slowly come to life. Shop owners came out earlier to begun getting ready for what they hoped would be a busy day. A few cars even rolled out onto the street. He watched all of it with unfocused eyes. He didn’t really care much about the people below him. At least not enough to pay close attention to their daily lives.
No one even looked up as the mutant turtle stood. No one ever looked up. A lady came out onto her front balcony and began to hang clothes on a line. She was only a few feet away from him yet she never even noticed his presence. Leo watched her for a moment before slipping into the shadows of the nearby fire escape. Sirens rang out as he made his way down to the alley way below. A man lay sprawled out against the wall, probably passed out after a long night of drinking. Leo wrinkled his nose as the stench before sliding open the manhole cover. Without alerting the sleeping man he fell down into the depths of the sewers below.
